Trusted Technologies

Trusted Technologies marked an important chapter in the development of information security in Portugal, combining technical expertise, security research and hands-on work in an era when cyber threats were becoming increasingly complex and strategic.

A chapter in Portuguese cybersecurity

Security work with lasting relevance.

Founded in Portugal, Trusted Technologies worked in information security at a time when organisations were becoming increasingly dependent on connected infrastructure, remote systems and digital information. Its activity helped bring technical security, vulnerability awareness and cyber investigation into a wider public and institutional conversation.

01 / SECURITY

Information protection

Work centred on the practical protection of systems, networks, equipment and digital information, with a strong technical approach to security.

02 / RESEARCH

Technical investigation

Trusted Technologies became associated with investigative work into complex cyber threats, including infrastructure connected with international cyber-espionage activity.

03 / LEGACY

A visible impact

The company's work became part of an important period in Portugal's information-security history, when cyber risk moved from a specialist concern into public and institutional awareness.

Research case · 2009

The GhostNet investigation.

One of the company's best-known research episodes concerned GhostNet, a large cyber-espionage network identified internationally in 2009. Trusted Technologies published investigative work relating to data and infrastructure associated with Portuguese public-sector organisations.

From technical evidence to national awareness.

The investigation drew public attention to the reality of cyber-espionage and to the exposure of sensitive organisations to remotely controlled malicious infrastructure. Contemporary reporting described material linked to the Portuguese justice system and other state-related information among the data examined in connection with the network.

The broader international GhostNet investigation had identified compromised hosts across more than one hundred countries. Technical infrastructure and circumstantial evidence pointed strongly toward China, but the original researchers explicitly stated that the identity and motivation of the operators could not be established with certainty.

Historical accuracy: this site uses the term China-based cyber-espionage network to describe the technical context. It does not claim that GhostNet was conclusively operated by the Chinese Government.
Current status

The company paused. The experience remains.

Trusted Technologies has temporarily ceased active operations. Its founders are currently working in other fields, carrying forward the technical experience, investigative mindset and problem-solving culture developed through the company's work.

They remain open to new challenges and future opportunities where that background, judgement and experience can create value.
